Congratulations to Joyce Burgess, Jasper Evans, Joyce Wiley and Fatima Pryor who are the February 2022 recipients of the Pursuit of Excellence Award
Ms. Burgess has worked for the district for more than 11 years and currently works as our Speech/Language Pathologist. Ms. Burgess was nominated by her colleague, Anna Dunn. Ms. Dunn states: “Mrs. Joyce Burgess is the best! For around twenty years Mrs. Burgess has served many speech students in our Baldwin County school community. She is definitely a dedicated and caring employee. Mrs. Burgess is a pleasure to work with and always has a smile on her face. Midway Hills Academy is proud to have her serving its speech students. Her experience, knowledge of speech, and love for children are a winning combination. Mrs. Burgess diligently and faithfully works with students in groups and one on one. She works hard to help in any way that she can. Mrs. Burgess currently serves MHA and OHMS. We are certainly thankful to have her on our team. Thanks, Mrs. Burgess for all that you do. Mr. Evans has been working for the Baldwin County School District for more than 5 years. Mr. Evans currently works as a Paraprofessional at Lakeview Academy. He was nominated by his colleague, Katrina Shy. Ms. Shy had this to say: “Mr. Evans is a very humble guy. He has a heart for the kids. He has a great down-to-earth personality. He goes over and beyond for the students. He knows exactly what to do when handling difficult students and situations. You will never know when he’s frustrated or upset. Mr. Evans was built for the position of behavior specialist. You have a problem, one call that’s all, Coach Evans to the rescue!” Mr. Evans, thank you for modeling excellence!
This is Ms. Wiley’s third year working for the Baldwin County School District. Ms. Wiley currently works as a Paraprofessional at Lakeview Academy. She was nominated by her colleague, Linda Colwell. Ms. Colwell had the following to say: “Ms. Wiley exudes joy and happiness. She always wears a smile and never misses an opportunity to share some form of positive praise with every adult and child she encounters. Her curriculum always engages, differentiates, and is inclusive to all students. She plans lessons, adding support to materials when they are needed so all her students will enjoy the activities. As a special educator, I recognize the true gift Ms. Wiley has at meeting children where they are and then genuinely seeing the vision they have for a wonderful future. The world is much richer with Ms. Wiley in it, and I know our students at Lakeview Primary School are blessed to have her as a teacher. I am blessed to have her as a colleague.” Ms. Wiley, thank you for being a model of excellence!
Ms. Pryor has worked for the Baldwin County School District for over 4 years. She currently works as the School Food Service Manager at Baldwin High School. She was nominated by her supervisor, Susan Nelson. Ms. Nelson had the following to say: “Ms. Pryor not only runs a great kitchen operation at BHS & GCEC she also oversees the supper program thru CACFP and the Summer Meal programs. Fatima is very reliable in all aspects of her job. She submits reports on a timely basis, participates in meal preparation efforts, and is respected by her staff and peers. Fatima is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure all students are served. Thank you for all you do!” Ms. Pryor, thank you for being the epitome of excellence!
The Baldwin County School District (BCSD) Pursuit of Excellence Award is an employee recognition program. This award is presented monthly to employees who go above and beyond the call of duty. A maximum of four employees will be chosen monthly and recognized during the regular Baldwin County Board of Education Meeting. Employees may be cited for a single act or long-term excellence. Any Baldwin County School District employee is eligible for nomination, so long as they have not previously received the award. Team or groups are not eligible for recognition. Nominations may be made by any BCSD employee, student, parent, or community member. Nominations are due by the fourth Tuesday of each month. Nomination forms are available online or at the BCSD office.
