The Baldwin County School District's Summer Meals Program begins on Monday, June 6. Meals are free for children 18 years and under, and will be delivered to local drop spots throughout the community to be picked up by the children’s parents. A full list of the delivery stops and times for each is available on the BCSD webpage.
According to Baldwin County School Nutrition Director Susan Nelson, Baldwin County has a high ratio of children who go hungry due to their economic status, “and that’s why we’re eligible during the regular school year for Community Eligibility (a non-pricing food option for schools),” Nelson said, “there’s a critical need for volunteers on Mondays during the months of June and July. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been really hard to get a volunteer pool together.” Volunteers are needed for only 30-45 minute increments. This is a wonderful opportunity to bring the family to do something positive for the community in less than an hour.
Anyone wishing to sign up to volunteer to help distribute meals to children can contact Susan Nelson at susan.nelson@baldwin.k12.ga.us or call at 478-457-3315.
