Students wearing life vests learning about water safety.

Mrs. Jan Morgan with Communities in Schools came and talked to the first grade classes about water safety. The Water Safety course is sponsored by Georgia Power, and they provided pledges and activity books for the students reminding them about water safety. Since Milledgeville is home to Lake Sinclair and the Oconee River, it is very important that our students learn about water safety with the upcoming summer. The students learned seven basic rules: 1. Never Swim Alone, 2. Follow the Pool Rules, 3. Look Before You Leap, 4. Think So You Don’t Sink, 5. Reach or Throw, Don’t Go, 6. Wear Your Life Jacket, 7. Wear Your Sunscreen and Protective Clothing. The students also met Longfellow the Whale, who helped them remember the rules. The students pledged to follow the water safety rules.
