BCSD Superintendent Dr. Noris Price Named Finalist for Georgia Superintendent of the Year

Dr. Noris Price, superintendent of the Baldwin County School District, has been named as a finalist for 2020 Georgia Superintendent of the Year by the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA). According to GSSA, each finalist has been singled out for their leadership abilities and their excellent skill set in working with their boards, staff, parents, and local communities. They have outstanding communication skills and strive to create innovative educational environments for students to be successful.

“I am honored to be selected as a finalist for Georgia Superintendent of the Year,” said Dr. Noris Price. “We are making progress as a school district and working hard to provide all of our students with a high quality education that will prepare them for a bright future. I am thankful to have an exemplary school board, dedicated employees, great students, and supportive parents and community members.”

Dr. Noris Price is in her sixth year as superintendent of the Baldwin County School District (BCSD). Under her leadership, the Baldwin County School District has implemented initiatives and instructional strategies that have resulted in improved student performance and the high school graduation rate has increased from 66 percent to 90.7 percent. This month, Dr. Price received the Communities In Schools National “All In For Students” Award. Recently, Dr. Price was awarded the GSSA President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership, the Nova Southeastern University(NSU) Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, the highest and most prestigious honor that NSU bestows upon its graduates, and the Wilmington College Alumni Citation Award in the category of Distinguished Contributions to Education.

Each year, the Georgia School Superintendents Association calls for and accepts nominations from local school boards, Regional Education Service Agencies (RESA), business organizations and communities, and education colleagues from all over the state of Georgia. The nomination and selection process spans several months. The announcement for 2020 Georgia Superintendent of the Year will be made at the Georgia School Boards Association/GSSA Winter Conference in December in Atlanta. The Georgia Superintendent of the Year will compete for the National Superintendent of the Year, which will be announced in February 2020 at the AASA National Conference on Education in San Diego, California. Other finalists include Ms. Samantha Fuhrey (Newton County Schools), Dr. Mark Scott (Houston County Schools) and Dr. Jeff Bearden (Forsyth County Schools).
