Baldwin County’s young dancers took the stage, and the dance floor, by storm this past weekend at the annual DanceATHENS Festival and OPEN CALL Dance Convention in Athens, Georgia.
Representing Oak Hill Middle School (OHMS), Lakeview Academy (LVA), Midway Hills Academy (MHA), and the MHA Drill Team, our talented students were invited to perform in the matinee showcase on October 11th at the Classic Center, joining dancers from across the Southeast, including Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia.
The invitation came from DanceATHENS host Allison Hayn Smith, a close friend and colleague of our own dance faculty, marking an incredible opportunity for Baldwin County students to perform on a regional stage and connect with peers from other schools and studios.

A Weekend of Movement, Mastery, and Memories
Beyond their performance, students participated in the two-day OPEN CALL Dance Convention, where they trained under professional instructors in four master classes: Contemporary, Latin, Tap, and Hip Hop.
The weekend culminated in a final showcase highlighting standout performances by Makenzie Reaves and Normani Baldwin, whose energy and technique earned enthusiastic applause from judges and audience members alike.
Learning in Motion: Faculty Professional Development
While students were honing their craft, our dedicated dance faculty Crystal Williams, Chrys Moore, and ShaDra Cleveland attended professional learning sessions designed to strengthen classroom instruction and support statewide dance standards.
A Community that Dances Together
This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our Principals, Assistant Principals, Fine Arts Coordinator, Superintendent, and, of course, the incredible parents who filled the audience with cheers and pride.
Their encouragement and the students’ dedication remind us why the arts remain at the heart of Baldwin’s culture of excellence.
