Baldwin County School District Needs Volunteers for Summer Meals Program

The Baldwin County School District (BCSD) is excited to announce the start of its annual summer meals program on June 3, 2024, with a new distribution approach. Due to staffing shortages, no bus routes for meal deliveries will be available this year.

"This year, we're assembling 1,000 meal kits each week at Lakeview Academy. These seven-day meal kits will be available for drive-through pickup on Mondays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m," said Baldwin County Nutrition Director Susan Nelson.

To make this effort possible, BCSD needs volunteers to help assemble the meal kits on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at Lakeview Academy's cafeteria. "Volunteers are essential for our success," Nelson said.

Volunteers are needed starting May 28, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the flexibility to help for at least one hour. No cooking skills are required, as tasks involve assembling meal components.

Additionally, meals will be served throughout the month of June at Baldwin High School, Oak Hill Middle School, Midway Hills Academy, and the Early Learning Center. These sites are open to all students in Baldwin County, and meals must be consumed on site. On Thursdays, BCSD students will receive three take-home meal kits for breakfast and lunch over the weekend.

The BCSD summer meals program is open to all children 18 and younger in Baldwin County. For more details or to volunteer, please contact Aketi Mayweather at Aketi.Mayweather@baldwin.k12.ga.us.
