Baldwin County School District Observes Martin Luther King Jr. Day

meghannugent3

Each year, on the third Monday of January, we observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Day. Dr. King was an influential civil rights leader who traveled the country

spreading his message of social justice, equality, and love. He called upon all of

us to rise to the mantle of our constitution, seeing each man or woman alive as

equals and brothers in the shared, collective experience of what it means to be an

American. He called upon all of us to stand and deliver true justice for all.

He taught us that we cannot and must not retreat into our own fears. He taught

us that every single one of us, regardless of the place of our birth, the color of

our skin, or the money in our bank accounts, has worth. He taught us that we are

all deserving of our personal dignity and that we all play our own special roles in

making this country so extraordinary.

The Baldwin County School District is committed to being an organization that

fosters belonging for every person and group of people. We pledge to play a

critical role in setting the tone for racial equality, equity, respect, tolerance,

dignity, and understanding in partnership with our employees, families, and

community.

Monday, January 20, 2025, is a student and staff holiday in honor of Dr. Martin

Luther King, Jr. This week and throughout the year, teachers will share with our

students the incredible accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the

positive impact he made on our great country and the lives of so many

Americans.

Dr. King believed that a community of love, justice, and solidarity would

eventually be actualized. That is why we must continue to work tirelessly for the

realization of his dream.
