Baldwin High School Authorized As An International Baccalaureate World School

Baldwin High School has been authorized an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and will offer the IB Diploma Programme. This prestigious program provides students with the opportunity to engage in a balanced and challenging education that helps prepare them for a successful future.

The IB Diploma Programme encourages critical thinking and a high level of engagement. It was created to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to make a better more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. With the IB Diploma Programme, courses are centered around inquiry-based teaching, conceptual understanding, teamwork, collaboration, and developing an understanding of local and global impacts.

The IB Diploma Programme enables teachers to develop resilient, self-motivated young people who have the knowledge, skills, and sense of purpose they need to thrive throughout their lives and contribute to making the world a better place. Students in the IB Diploma Programme will participate in rigorous coursework that features globally recognized standards. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education.

"We are excited to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to our students. IB World Schools provide a consistent quality of education from school to school. If a student goes to school in Georgia and gets an IB Diploma, or if they go to school in California, or Germany, or Australia, their IB diploma shows that they have received the same education because they have taken the same rigorous courses and assessments." stated Superintendent Dr. Noris Price. ‘The IB Diploma Programme will open new doors for our students and provide them with a high school diploma that will be recognized internationally that’s in addition to their Georgia high school diploma.”

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is recognized and respected by the world’s leading universities, and evidence suggests that higher rates of DP students go on to university and higher education study than non-IB students. The acceptance rate for major universities, such as Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia, for students with an IB diploma, is approximately 95%.

In order for Baldwin High School to be authorized as IB World School, it had to undergo a rigorous application and interviewing process. The Baldwin County School District is one of three school systems in middle Georgia to offer the IB program.

The IB organization is a non-profit foundation that is overseen by an elected board of governors. The IB organization works with schools, governments, and International Organizations to develop challenging international programs with rigorous assessments. As of June 2024, over 8,000 programs were being offered across over 5,800 schools in over 160 countries.
