Baldwin Students Shine at National Flute Association Convention

ree

Two of Baldwin County’s talented young musicians, Brayshin Choice and Raelee Martin, recently had the incredible opportunity to perform on a national stage—and they made the most of every moment.

With the full support of the Baldwin County School District and their music educators, Brayshin and Raelee traveled to attend and perform at the 2025 National Flute Association (NFA) Convention as part of the Georgia College & State University Flute Choir. Their participation marked a major milestone in their musical journeys and showcased the caliber of student talent here in Baldwin.

Take a moment to enjoy their full ensemble performance here:

You’ll notice the group opens with extended techniques—innovative sound effects created using breath and alternative playing methods to expand the sonic possibilities of the flute.

A Weekend of Musical Discovery

While the performance was a highlight, Brayshin and Raelee immersed themselves in a full weekend of music and learning. They explored concerts, browsed exhibitor booths, and discovered new sheet music they’re already eager to bring back home.

One of the most inspiring experiences was attending Thursday night’s gala concert. The evening featured performances on rare and breathtaking instruments including a double contrabass flute, as well as traditional Turkish and Irish flutes. The students were especially moved by the world premiere of a new ensemble piece featuring celebrated soloist and Imani Winds founder Valerie Coleman.

Why It Matters

These kinds of experiences offer students access to a broader world of music—one that goes beyond the traditional band room and introduces them to global sounds, new techniques, and professional artistry. It’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when students are supported and encouraged to dream big.

We’re proud of their accomplishments and can’t wait to see where music takes them next.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible. Your continued support of our band students helps create lifelong memories—and makes Baldwin County a truly special place to learn and grow.
