Congratulations to the Baldwin County Board of Education for being named the 2023 Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) Governance Team of the Year (GTOY) for medium school systems at the annual GSBA Conference in Atlanta. This prestigious honor acknowledges the Baldwin County Board of Education's exceptional performance and dedication to effective governance and their unwavering commitment and hard work in representing the best interests of students, employees and the community.

The GTOY process requires the completion of a rigorous application and interview. The application process involves answering a series of questions aligned to the Standards for Effective Governance Teams and supported by relevant documentation that highlights the Board's exemplary leadership practices. In addition, interviews are conducted with the entire Board of Education (Governance Team), overseen by an external evaluator. The outcome of this comprehensive assessment, combined with the strength demonstrated in the initial application determines the recipients of the highly coveted 2023 GSBA Governance Team of the Year award.

A distinguishing aspect of the new GTOY process is its unwavering focus on the functioning of a governance team in a leadership capacity, rather than solely evaluating the actions of staff members. This approach ensures that the size or resources of a district hold no influence over the ability of a governance team to adhere to best practices and foster student achievement.
