BCSD Welcomes Dr. Rodney Tyson, Sr. as New Deputy Superintendent of Baldwin County Schools

The Baldwin County School District is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Rodney Tyson, Sr. as its new Deputy Superintendent. The Baldwin County Board of Education officially approved this key leadership role during their meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. Dr. Tyson brings a wealth of experience, with over 18 years dedicated to K-12 education and a proven commitment to fostering Georgia school district excellence.
Known for his dynamic and student-centered leadership, Dr. Tyson has a proven history of cultivating high-performing school environments, boosting student achievement, and forging strong connections between schools, families, and the community. His extensive experience includes successful roles as a high school principal, alternative school principal, assistant principal, and JROTC director.
As a principal, Dr. Tyson led significant improvements within his schools, resulting in record-high graduation rates, enhanced standardized test performance, and the introduction of cutting-edge instructional methods. He has consistently championed professional development for staff, fair and equitable disciplinary practices, and collaborative efforts across different subject areas. His work in alternative education focused on creating comprehensive support systems for at-risk students, ensuring they had the academic and emotional tools needed to transition successfully back to traditional schools.
Dr. Tyson's leadership capabilities were also honed during his honorable service as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Army. There, he managed key responsibilities in training, logistics, operations, and human resources, developing strong strategic planning, personnel development, and organizational management skills that have proven invaluable in his educational career.
Adding to his diverse skill set, Dr. Tyson previously owned and operated multiple Subway® franchises. This experience as a local business owner and community partner with the school district provided him with practical expertise in financial management, customer relations, team leadership, and community outreach.
Academically, Tyson holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration, along with advanced degrees in business management and teaching. He remains actively involved in mentoring, public speaking, and community volunteer work, reflecting his deep-seated dedication to student well-being, educational equity, and continuous learning.
Upon his appointment, Dr. Tyson shared his enthusiasm: "I am deeply honored and humbled to serve as Deputy Superintendent for Baldwin County Schools. While new to this community, I am excited to join the team and work together to build on the strong legacy of excellence that Baldwin County has established. My focus will be on supporting every student’s success, fostering meaningful relationships, and creating a collaborative environment where students and families are at the heart of everything we do."
