Early Learning Center Hosts Ferst Readers Kick-Off

meghannugent3

The Baldwin Early Learning Center held a Ferst Readers Kick-off last month. During the "Pages and Play Fall Carnival," students and families participated in read-aloud story time, literacy games, and crafts.

With Games, prizes, food, candy, and books, the students had so much fun they didn't realize they were learning. The Early Learning Center shared with parents that the most critical thing they can do to help their child be a reader is to read to them. Remember, reading starts at home, and it starts EARLY!

Each month, students will receive a Ferst reader book with parent resources. Those resources will help parents facilitate the joy of reading with their children at home!

About the Ferst Reader Program

The Ferst Readers Program is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen communities by providing quality books and literacy resources for children and their families to use during the earliest stages of development. For over 20 years, children enrolled in the program, have received a bookstore-quality, age-specific book, and parent/caregiver resources in the mail every month until their fifth birthday.

To date, the organization has mailed more than eight million books to children in participating areas. The cost is $42 a year per child, and funds are raised in each community through donations from individuals, corporate sponsorships, and foundation grants.
