This month, Dr. Maidara Nunn made a generous donation of $1,000 dollars to the media center at the Early Learning Center to purchase books for our district's youngest children. She is passionate about reading and believes that we must develop a love of reading in children at an early age.

Dr. Nunn has a long history of philanthropy in her years since retiring as a colonel from the U.S. Airforce Reserves. She has supported Animal Rescue, the Perry Players, Georgia Military College, Georgia College, and of course, the Baldwin County School System, where she began by volunteering in the school cafeteria.

"Some children did not have enough money to buy ice cream," said Dollie Ramsey, her first cousin who also serves as one of her assistants, "so she would buy it for them." That small contribution to the lives of our local children has ballooned over the years in continual charity.

Education has been a passion of Dr. Nunn's all her life, having graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College) before serving as a nursing instructor while getting degrees from the University of Augusta and the University of Maryland. When she achieved her doctorate in psychiatric nursing at Boston University, she decided to sign up for the Air Force Reserves while she was in her mid-thirties. She served for 22 years before finally retiring and devoting the rest of her life to helping to foster the education of those growing up in Baldwin county.

Thank you so much for all of your support, Dr. Maidara Nunn and for all that you've done for our country, our state, our county, and the Early Learning Center!
