What a treat it is for the students of Baldwin County School District to be so close to so many higher education campuses! A pre-Christmas gift came in the form of Georgia College's annual Education Day on Thursday, December 7th, which had the Baldwin County schools escape the clutches of the classroom to attend and participate in Georgia College athletics. The whole thing stemmed from a collaboration between Georgia College Athletics Director Wendell Staton and Baldwin County Superintendent Dr. Noris Price.
"Education Day is just a fantastic celebration of having Baldwin County students come into our campus," said Staton. Staton emphasized the significance of exposing Baldwin County public school students to the collegiate sports and campus life, stating, "The more they come, the more they will come back. And that's what we want."
In the years since the first Education Day event, it's now grown into more inclusive partnerships with Georgia Military College and other community schools, serving as a unifying force for the Baldwin community, and fostering a sense of community spirit among Milledgeville residents.
Education Day at Georgia College stands as a testament to the transformative power of experiential education, and a bit of a holiday in own right.
