On Wednesday, local leaders, community members, and family gathered under bright summer skies to celebrate the life and legacy of LaTasha R. Butts with the unveiling of the newly designated LaTasha R. Butts Memorial Highway.

Held at the intersection of Highway 49 and the 441 Milledgeville Bypass, the dedication ceremony was led by The Honorable Floyd Griffin, who offered heartfelt remarks about Butts’ impact on the Baldwin County community and beyond. Representative Mack Jackson also accompanied the family. The sign unveiling marked the official naming of the highway, which was signed into law earlier this year by the 2025 Georgia General Assembly.

A proud Milledgeville native, LaTasha R. Butts made her mark on the world through collegiate athletics and her brave public battle with breast cancer, and was also in the first cohort of BCSD's Distinguished Alumni. Her strength, leadership, and advocacy inspired many across Georgia and the nation. The naming of this stretch of highway ensures her story continues to shine along one of Milledgeville’s busiest corridors.

This lasting tribute is about more than honoring her memory, it’s about reminding everyone who travels this route of the power of perseverance, courage, and the strength of the Baldwin community.
