Members of the Board of Education, Chamber of Commerce, construction contractors, BCSD staff, and community members gathered on November 7th for the official ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the renovations at Midway Hills Academy and Midway Hills Primary. Renovations at both schools have seen new lighting and ceiling, new flooring, new furniture, HVAC and bathroom upgrades, painting, and new signage.
"The Board's foresight to renovate our schools that are at least 20 years or older and to be able to have the ESPLOST funding that allows us to maintain 21st-century learning environments, has been a game changer for our students and staff," said Superintendent Dr. Noris Price to the gathered crowd at Midway Hills Primary and Midway Hills Academy.
Tours were given of both schools, providing the community with an up-close look at the updates to both schools, with student ambassadors leading the way at Midway Hills Academy to show them some of their favorite areas. President and CEO of the Milledgeville Chamber of Commerce Kara Lassiter said, "it's really very welcoming, the first time I walked into it I thought, 'oh my gosh! I want to go to school here! What a great place for our students to learn! So, I applaud everybody for being able to vote for this."
ESPLOST passed with the highest approval rating two years ago, generating anywhere approximately $30 million dollars as a result of the one-cent sales tax that is paid by anyone who shops in Baldwin County. ESPLOST has allowed BCSD to also renovate Oak Hill Middle School, Lakeview Primary, Braves Stadium, security upgrades, and built a new athletic complex.
