On August 21, 2024, Superintendent Dr. Noris Price presented at the Chamber of Commerce's Eggs and Issues event, held at Central Georgia Technical College.
Dr. Price spoke to a packed room about the state of the school district. Her presentation reviewed the district’s strategic plan, recent Georgia Milestones test scores, graduation rate, plans to improve student achievement, innovative programs, school renovations, and recent accomplishments.
"We are doing good work and have made a lot of progress, but we know we have more work to do," Price shared. ‘We are working hard to make sure all of our students achieve at high levels and are reading at grade level.” Price explained that inequities must be addressed for our students and families to succeed. She listed the uniform closets, laundry centers, food pantries, health clinic, and other resources that have been implemented throughout her tenure.
Price is no stranger to overcoming barriers. She shared that she immigrated to the United States with her parents when she was 10 years old, not speaking any English. There were many struggles and challenges that she experienced as a child. "I know what it is like to go hungry, to have your utilities turned off, to come home to an eviction notice and worry about where you were going to live. When you are facing these challenges, you are not thinking about the great lesson that your teachers have prepared for that day," she explained.
"The only way to address poverty is through education," she shared. Dr. Price is the first person in her family to graduate from high school and college. Dr. Price has served the Baldwin County School District for 10 years and will retire at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. Her passion and dedication for improving the lives of students and families has been evident in her service.
