Traffic and Safety Improvements on Blandy Road Set to Begin During Spring Break

The Baldwin County School District in partnership with the City of Milledgeville is pleased to announce an important development in its ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and efficiency of traffic around our primary schools. Following the approval by the Milledgeville City Council on February 13, 2024, a significant construction and traffic improvement plan will commence during the week of Spring Break, April 1-5, aimed at improving the entrance and exit routes of Lakeview and Midway Hills Primary Schools.

In collaboration with Atlas Structural, Simonton Engineering, and the City of Milledgeville, this initiative seeks to make a meaningful impact on the daily commute of students, parents, and motorists. The project involves the construction of raised islands at critical points around Blandy Rd, facilitating safer and more controlled entrance and exit movements to Lakeview Primary and from Midway Hills Primary. Additionally, the installation of high-visibility traffic channelizers along the centerline of Blandy Road will further guide vehicular movement and enhance safety for all road users.

The construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 1, 2024, and will be expedited to ensure completion before the end of Spring Break. This timing has been carefully chosen to minimize disruption to school activities and to capitalize on the reduced traffic volume during the holiday period.

It is important to note that this construction will not alter the current usage of orange traffic barriers and roadway cones. Instead, it aims to offer a permanent and structurally sound solution to the existing temporary measures, thereby ensuring a safer traffic environment for our students, parents, and all motorists in the area.

The City of Milledgeville Public Works is committed to executing these improvements efficiently and with minimal inconvenience to the public. We look forward to the positive changes this project will bring to our community and thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
