Baldwin Brave Tight-Ender #53 Jermon Simmons Signs with Georgia Military College

Writer: BCSDBCSD

In a special Signing Ceremony held in the James E. Lunsford Gym on Wednesday, February 1st, Baldwin Brave Tight-Ender Jermon Simmons signed an official Letter of Intent to play the tight-end position for the Georgia Military School Bulldogs. The ceremony was hosted by Braves Head Football Coach Jesse Hicks, with special remarks by Board of Education Chair Dr. Gloria Wicker, BHS Athletic Director Dexter Ricks, BHS Principal Jason Flanders, and Milledgeville Mayor Mary Parham-Copelan.

Coach Ricks said that this is an extra special event because of the recent adoption of the college transfer portal, "Recruitment has changed a lot over the past couple of years in high school football because of that portal so if you're able to get a student to sign coming straight out of high school, that says a lot for both the athlete and the program."

Simmons has a long family history in Baldwin. His brother played basketball with the Baldwin Braves two years ago and his father played on the football team during the early 2000s. He's excited about playing for GMC, "It's a good program, good coaching staff. I'm just ready to see what it brings," he said.

This signing comes only weeks after two-time consecutive National Championship winning UGA Football Coach Kirby Smart was at Baldwin High School scouting for player recruitment. The word is clearly getting out that Baldwin Athletic Program is a tour-de-force of talent! Congratulations, Jermon Simmons and GMC Bulldogs!
