The Baldwin County School District recently made history by performing its very first "Nutcracker" ballet at Oak Hill Middle School. This festive holiday production was made possible by the hard work and dedication of dance groups from our primary, k-2, middle and high schools. The entire production was directed by Oak Hill Middle School Dance Instructor Crystal Williams, who has seen the BCSD Dance Program expand rapidly in the past four years.
In addition to Ms. Williams, Chris Moore, Michala Hill, and Savanna Cottle instructed dance groups and art work from the primary, k-2, middle, and high schools respectively. "Dance is vast, it's not limited. There are so many avenues you can take. So, why not…,“ Williams said. "This is, not brand new, but brand new to our students in terms of rehearsal, tenacity, getting to rehearsal on time, being disciplined to learn parts, to learn lines, and to learn steps.”
The "Nutcracker" is a classic ballet that has been enjoyed by audiences around the world for over a century. It tells the story of a young girl named Clara who is given a nutcracker doll as a Christmas gift. When she falls asleep on Christmas Eve, the nutcracker comes to life and takes her on a magical journey through a land of snowflakes and sweets. Along the way, they encounter a variety of colorful characters and breathtaking dances.

The Baldwin County School District's performance of the "Nutcracker" was a true community effort, with dancers ranging in age from primary and k-2 school students to high school students. The elementary school dancers brought youthful energy and enthusiasm to the stage, while the older dancers brought grace and technical skill. Together, they created a truly memorable performance that captivated the audience from start to finish.
In addition to the dancers, the production also featured stunning sets and costumes. The result was a truly magical experience that left the audience feeling festive and joyous.
Overall, the Baldwin County School District's performance of the "Nutcracker" was a resounding success, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the district's talented dancers, dance instructors, and the Fine Arts program. It is sure to be a holiday tradition for many years to come.
