Baldwin High School recently welcomed Coach Jimmy Fields as the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for the Baldwin Braves during a special meet and greet held at BHS. The evening brought together student-athletes, families, school leaders, district administrators, and community members to celebrate the next chapter of Baldwin Basketball.

The event was hosted by Athletic Trainer Coach Dexter Ricks and featured remarks from BHS Principal Markeeta Clayton, BCSD Superintendent Dr. Kristina Brooks, legendary former BHS Basketball Coach James Lunsford, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Rodney Tyson. Together, their messages reflected a shared excitement about Coach Fields’ leadership and the future of the boys basketball program.

Coach Fields brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to Baldwin High School, along with a clear vision for building a program rooted in discipline, hard work, academic accountability, and character development. During his remarks, he made it clear that while he is ready to win, his goals for the program extend far beyond the basketball court.

“This is not all about basketball with me,” Coach Fields shared. “It’s about character, discipline, and grades.”

Coach Fields spoke directly to student-athletes about the importance of academic success, explaining that grades will be a major priority in his program. He described plans for structured accountability, including study hall expectations, progress report checks, and regular communication with teachers and families. His message to players was clear: athletic ability matters, but academics and character must come first.

“When you see our kids in the community, they are not just representing themselves,” Coach Fields said. “They represent Baldwin High School.”

Legendary former BHS Basketball Coach James Lunsford also offered his encouragement and support, recognizing both the proud tradition of Baldwin Basketball and the work ahead as the Braves prepare to compete in a challenging region. His remarks reinforced the importance of community support, consistency, and leadership that reaches beyond the game itself.

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Rodney Tyson closed with a powerful reminder about the role athletics can play in shaping students’ lives. He praised Coach Fields’ commitment to building character in young men and noted that the lessons learned through sports often prepare students for the challenges they will face later in life.

“At the end of the day, athletics helps build good citizens,” Dr. Tyson said. “The situations young people face in athletics are situations they will face in life.”

As Coach Fields begins his first season with the Braves, the message from the evening was one of unity, purpose, and high expectations. Baldwin High School is proud to welcome a coach who believes in winning games, but even more importantly, believes in developing young men who are prepared to succeed in the classroom, in competition, and in life.

Baldwin County Schools welcomes Coach Jimmy Fields to the Braves family and looks forward to an exciting new season of Baldwin High School Basketball.
