The Baldwin County School District is excited to share the success of the recent cultural event featuring acclaimed African dance instructor Jason Aryeh. The visit, which took place on January 19th at Baldwin High School, exposed students to tradition, history, and dance movements from the numerous tribes existing in West Africa combined with modern and contemporary/urban dance movements. Aryeh also taught students movements that expressed traditional themes of ritual, community, and the human collective experience. The students concluded the visit with an impromptu dance class, attended by students and special guest Superintendent Dr. Noris Price.
Aryeh's scheduled performance was a lively and interactive dance class. Students had the unique opportunity to engage directly with Jason Aryeh, learning traditional and contemporary West African dance styles.
"It was truly inspiring to witness our students actively participating and engaging with the rich cultural experience provided by Jason Aryeh," said Superintendent Dr. Price, "The impromptu dance class added an extra layer of excitement to the event."
Aryeh, a distinguished dance instructor and founder of Africa Alive Dance Company, shared his passion for dance with Savannah Cottle's dance class, incorporating elements of traditional and contemporary West African dance into the master class. The dance session showcased the power of cultural exchange and its positive impact on students' educational experiences.
