BCSD APRIL PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE WINNERS

The Pursuit of Excellence award is presented to employees who go above and beyond the call of duty.  Nominations can be made by BCSD employees, students, parents and community members.  The nomination form can be found on our website under the Human Resources Department tab.  


Congratulations to the following employees who are the April 2025 Pursuit of Excellence Award recipients for the Baldwin County School District.

Amanda Cheek

Special Education Teacher at Lakeview Primary


Amanda Cheek is working in her third year with the Baldwin County School District as a Special Education teacher at Lakeview Primary.


Mrs. Cheek was nominated by her colleague, Arabell Ferguson.  Ms.  Ferguson had the following to say, “Mrs. Cheek goes above and beyond for the kids and for her Paraprofessionals. She has extreme patience with her kids and puts her own needs aside for others. She is overall a hard worker, and just a kind and sweet person to work with. Mrs. Cheek has been such a light this year, not only for the children but for the staff in the room as well. She is such an anchor for the kids. She goes above and beyond for the students to ensure they thrive, as well as lending such a helping hand to others. She pushes herself to do her best every day, and always shows her love for the classroom, even in the smallest ways.” 


Mrs. Cheek, thank you for being the epitome of excellence!

Kathryn Renee Brooks

Kindergarten Teacher at Midway Hills Primary


Mrs. Brooks is working in her thirteenth year for the Baldwin County School District.  she currently works as a Kindergarten Teacher at Midway Hills Primary School.  


Mrs. Brooks was nominated by Lisa Bell , Assistant Principal at Midway Hills Primary.   Mrs. Bell  had the following to say, “I am nominating  Mrs. Renee Brooks for the Pursuit of Excellence Award for her exceptional dedication and resilience throughout the 2024-2025 school year.  Mrs. Brooks shows up each day with a commitment to providing the best education for her students. Mrs. Brooks is a team-player and she supports school changes and initiatives.  She has a positive attitude and a  positive demeanor with students, faculty, and staff.  Her ability to adapt, maintain a positive attitude, and persevere in the face of adversity is a testament to her professionalism and passion for teaching. Mrs. Brooks exemplifies what it means to pursue excellence, and recognizing her efforts with this award would be a fitting tribute to her unwavering dedication to the students at Midway Hills Primary School and the Baldwin County School District.

Jalyn Glenn

Special Education Paraprofessional at Oak Hill Middle School


Mr. Glenn is working in his third year for the Baldwin County School district.  He currently works as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Oak Hill Middle School.  


Mr. Glenn was nominated by Diondrea Whipple, teacher at Lakeview Academy.  Ms. Whipple had the following to say, “Mr. Glenn embodies what it means to truly love working with students. He can readily be found working on and inquiring about strategies to reach students that extend beyond the text. Mr. Glenn is actively involved in assisting the students with their academic work and in forming relationships with the students. Mr. Glenn is always willing to lend a helping hand as needed at Oak Hill and serves on various committees. He is a great listener and a fair, thoughtful team member. Mr. Glenn always seems to strike just the right balance between investing in effective relationships with his colleagues and keeping his focus on work priorities.  Mr. Glenn also works in the YES After School Program at Lakeview Academy. Mr. Glenn is supportive of his students in and out of school. Mr. Glenn is a ray of sunshine. The students affectionately call him Mr. J. Keep up the great work Mr. Glenn.”

TaQuila Thomas

CTAE Early Childhood Education Teacher at Baldwin High School


Ms. Thomas is working in her fifth year for the Baldwin County School District.  She is currently working as the CTAE Early Childhood Education teacher at Baldwin High School.


Ms. Thomas was nominated by her colleague, Hunter Couch.  Mr. Couch had the following to say, “Ms. Thomas is a leader, she is always there to help when asked. She always puts her best foot forward. Ms. Thomas dedicates her passion to her students and inspires them daily. She is an amazing educator, colleague, and friend. Ms. Thomas has helped me to become the best teacher I can be,  offering advice, guidance, and solutions when I need it.  Ms. Thomas is an invaluable asset to the Baldwin County School District, tackling challenges head-on with determination and resilience. She is a formidable force, and I am grateful to have her as both a colleague and a friend."
