Big news from the halls of Georgia College Early College! 11th-grader Rahina Biyogmam has been chosen from more than 1,200 applicants across Georgia to serve on State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ 2025-2026 Student Advisory Council. She was formally recognized on Tuesday, October 14th, by the Baldwin Board of Education for this amazing achievement!
That’s right! Out of 1,235 student voices, Baldwin County’s very own Rahina will be one of just 79 students statewide meeting with Superintendent Woods throughout the school year to share real feedback on the impact of education policies in Georgia classrooms.
Representing Baldwin at the State Level

“We are so proud of Rahina for earning a spot on the State Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council,” said Baldwin County School District Superintendent Dr. Kristina Brooks. “She is a dedicated and thoughtful student whose voice will represent Baldwin County well at the state level. We know she will bring great insight to the table and make a meaningful contribution on behalf of her peers.”
A Voice for Students Across Georgia
Members of the council will serve as student ambassadors, discussing education issues, offering feedback, and taking on community service projects that could include everything from local clean-ups to educational workshops and fundraisers. The goal: build leadership, teamwork, and civic responsibility. Skills that Baldwin County students already know a thing or two about.
“I am excited to welcome the students who will serve on the 2025-2026 Student Advisory Council,” said Superintendent Woods in his official announcement. “This council is about hearing directly from students. The ones experiencing our schools every day. These outstanding young leaders bring experiences and perspectives from every corner of our state, and their viewpoints and ideas will guide our work, ensuring we stay focused on what matters most: supporting every student’s success.”
About the Council
Each year, Georgia public high school students in grades 10-12 (including those in charter schools) can apply to serve on the Student Advisory Council by writing short essays on their ideas for improving education. This year, in a new pilot effort to broaden perspectives, two private school students were also invited to join.
Topics explored by this year’s applicants included everything from teacher recruitment and retention to curriculum design, testing requirements, and expanding opportunities for rural students. The council includes at least four students from each of Georgia’s 16 RESA regions, ensuring voices from rural, suburban, and urban communities alike are heard.
What’s Next
The first meeting of the 2025-2026 Student Advisory Council will take place in November at the Georgia Department of Education in Atlanta. Students selected will receive details via email, along with their official welcome to a year of statewide impact.
Congratulations, Rahina! Your Baldwin County family is cheering you on every step of the way.
