Baldwin County School District Families,
We want to extend our deepest condolences to Apalachee High School and the Barrow County School community for Wednesday's tragedy. We grieve with the students, parents, staff, family, and community members of Barrow County.
This devastating incident is a sad reminder of the importance of our shared responsibility to ensure the safety of every student and staff member. We want to reassure you that the safety and security of your children and our entire school community remain our highest priority. We understand the deep trust you place in us each day, and we are unwavering in our commitment to maintaining a safe environment where all students can learn, thrive, and grow. While incidents like the one in Barrow County shake us all, our District continues to take comprehensive and proactive measures daily to safeguard our schools.
We have been communicating with our law enforcement partners and have requested an increased presence of law enforcement on our campuses as a precautionary measure. We understand that maintaining a safe learning environment requires ongoing evaluation and improvement. Our district works closely with safety consultants and local law enforcement to regularly assess our protocols and make necessary adjustments to ensure they meet the highest standards. This commitment to continuous improvement ensures that we are always aligned with best practices in school safety.
All Baldwin County Stakeholders play a role in keeping our schools safe. Please remind your children that threats have real consequences, whether made in jest or seriously. Encourage them to speak up if they see or hear anything that concerns them-whether in person, on social media, or elsewhere. By fostering a culture of openness and communication, we can better protect our community from harm.Â
Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to report events and behaviors that they believe pose a threat to the safety of our schools through our Safe2SpeakUp platform. You can find Safe2SpeakUp at the following link: Safe2SpeakUp. Safe2SpeakUp can also be found in the BCSD Bookmarks Tab on all school-issued devices and the Baldwin County Board of Education website ( https://www.baldwincountyschoolsga.org/) under the "more" tab. If you see or hear anything of concern, please report it immediately to the school administration or law enforcement.
We recognize this is a challenging time and remain committed to transparency and collaboration with our families. Please know that our focus on safety is not just in response to recent events but is a part of our daily operations and long-term planning.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure a safe and secure environment for all our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Dr. Noris Price,Â
Superintendent of Schools
