Kyle Levester Signs with Allen University and Soars Toward What’s Next

At the James Lunsford Gymnasium at Baldwin High School, stands full of coaches, teammates, and mentors, Kyle Levester signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his track and field career at Allen University—a moment that celebrated his purpose, perseverance, and quiet strength.

BCSD Athletic Director Coach Dexter Ricks, who introduced the ceremony, spoke of Kyle’s journey with the kind of pride that only comes from watching a young man grow into himself.

“We celebrate,” he said, “not just because of where Kyle is going, but because of how far he’s come.” Starting late in his high school athletic career, Kyle joined the track team after a stint in basketball, unsure at first where he’d fit. But it didn’t take long for coaches to notice something special in him. From long jump to triple jump to high jump, Kyle kept showing up—learning, improving, and soaring higher each time.

“He finished fourth in the state his first year, and won the region high jump,” Ricks noted, “and now he’s clearing heights like 6'7", aiming even higher.” The room chuckled when Ricks teased that maybe Kyle would hit 6'8" soon. But what grounded the moment was the respect he showed for Kyle’s work ethic and willingness to try—again and again.

Multiple coaches and mentors spoke, each echoing the same sentiment: Kyle may not have been the loudest voice in the room, but he was always a leader. “He’s the kind of kid you don’t even realize is leading,” one coach said. “He just sets the tone by being there, giving his best, and lifting up the team with his presence.”

Coach Ricks called him “determined and deeply faithful.” He reminded Kyle and everyone present that while college athletics will come with challenges—long days, tough practices, moments of doubt—the foundation Kyle has already built will carry him through.

“Stay grounded in your faith, stay in touch with your people, and remember you’re never alone in this.”

The most emotional part of the event came when Kyle spoke for himself. “This is God’s plan,” he said simply. “He’s been my motivation in everything.” Surrounded by friends, family, and former teammates, Kyle announced with pride that he’ll be continuing his academic and athletic journey at Allen University.

And with that, the ceremony closed with applause, and with a strong sense of community pride. Kyle Levester represents not only personal achievement but the belief that when faith, work, and support align, young people can rise into their purpose—one leap at a time.

Congratulations, Kyle. Allen University is lucky to have you!
