It’s been a banner month for Sharon Reeves, Biotech Exploratory teacher at Oak Hill Middle School. She was honored both nationally and locally—recognized in ESPN’s Extra Yard for Teachers campaign and named 13WMAZ’s My Teacher is Tops recipient.
ESPN’s Extra Yard for Teachers
Each year, ESPN and the College Football Playoff Foundation host Extra Yard for Teachers Week, a nationwide celebration of educators who make a difference. The 2025 campaign ran from September 13–20, with September 16 designated as the Big Day for Teachers.
Reeves was nominated by colleague Nickolas Geeker, who praised her lasting impact on the Baldwin County community. The district remains committed to spotlighting educators who go above and beyond because, as the campaign reminds us, 'every day is game day for teachers'.
My Teacher is Tops: A Student’s Perspective

Locally, Reeves was surprised with 13WMAZ’s My Teacher is Tops award by Junior Journalist Blair Plaxico. Reeves was nominated by her student, Jamie Trippel, who highlighted her many contributions:
Applying for and winning grants, including one for $5,000 to benefit the school.
Caring for animals and plants over the summer without pay or recognition.
Greeting students each morning with joy, even when “kids aren’t fully awake.”
Trippel described Reeves as “very sweet and joyful,” while Reeves herself shared the advice she gives students:
“Choose a passion of something you enjoy and stick with it, because then it won’t become a job. You’ll love to come to work every single day.”
A Teacher Who Cultivates More Than Science
Reeves’ work goes beyond agriculture and biotechnology. She inspires students to explore their passions, pursue them wholeheartedly, and see learning as a lifelong journey.
Superintendent Dr. Kristina Brooks said, “Mrs. Reeves is an extraordinary teacher whose influence extends far beyond the classroom. She represents the heart of Baldwin County Schools, and we are proud to see her honored on both state and national stages.”
