Teacher of the Year Finalist: William Brunson, Baldwin High School



William Brunson has been an educator for 33 years. He grew up in Great Falls, South Carolina, and graduated from Great Falls High School. After working with various special needs children and adults at a mainstream recreational center one summer, he was inspired to become a teacher and decided to pursue education. He has been part of the Baldwin High School staff for 3 years, working with the ninth-grade academy as an inclusion special education teacher. He has dedicated himself to enriching the learning experience of all students by developing relationships that produce trust and determination to achieve.


Mr. Brunson strives to build relationships with colleagues and students that foster trust and encouragement. His pedagogical philosophy centers on building relationships that lead to meaningful and lasting learning experiences for all students with unique needs and gifts. His life has been dedicated to doing what is in the best interest of the students.


Brunson attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and a Master of Education in Secondary Administration and Supervision.
