Baldwin County School District is proud to announce the new cohort of 2023 REACH Scholars: Allyson Roman-Lopez, Shakyne Dubose, Naomi Barnes, Kaylin Quinn, and Travis Butler. These outstanding students, along with their parents, participated in the REACH Signing Ceremony held at Oak Hill Middle School on December 11th, cementing their commitment to surpassing the rigorous academic and behavioral standards outlined in the program. The ceremony was presided over by Principal Manzie Broxton, Superintendent Dr. Noris Price, Deputy Superintendent Matt Adams, Amy Taylor, 8th Counselor as well as leaders from across the Baldwin community.
REACH, which stands for Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen, is Georgia's pioneering needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. Aligned with the mission to ensure that Georgia's brightest minds receive the academic, social, and financial support necessary for high school graduation, college access, and postsecondary success, REACH Scholars who complete the program are awarded a $10,000 scholarship. For those choosing to attend partner colleges like Georgia College, Central Georgia Technical College, or Georgia Military College, the scholarship amount increases to $20,000. This scholarship is in addition to other grants or scholarships the students may receive, including HOPE.
Behind the scenes, the Baldwin County School System Charter Foundation of Excellence plays a crucial role in securing the success of these scholars. With a requirement of contributing $1,500 per REACH Scholar, totaling $7,500, the foundation diligently raises funds to support this initiative, ensuring that the REACH Scholarship Program is funded each year.
