BCSD to Hold Meningitis Vaccine Events

The Georgia Department of Public Health has released updated information regarding the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4), which is a new Georgia school entry requirement. According to the agency, effective July 1, 2021, children 16 years of age and older, who are entering the 11th grade must have received one booster dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine, unless their initial dose was administered on or after their 16th birthday.

The Baldwin County Health Department has partnered with our school district to hold two vaccination events to administer the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4). The first event is scheduled for Monday, August 30th and the second event will be held on Thursday, September 9th. Both events will take place at the Baldwin County Health Department located at 100 Ireland Drive Milledgeville, GA 31061 from 3:30-5:30 PM.

Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial illness that affects the brain and the spinal cord. Meningitis can cause shock, coma, and death within hours of the first symptoms.

Check with your doctor or local public health department to find out if your teen is up to date on their MCV4 booster shot and other shots recommended for teens.

The deadline for submitting verification of receiving the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) is September 30, 2021.
