Celebrate Read Across America Week with Our Schools!

This week, from March 4th to 8th, marks the exciting Read Across America week, a time when schools across the country rally together to celebrate reading and foster a love for books among students. Our schools have planned an array of fantastic events to engage and inspire our young readers, making it a week to remember.

Early Learning Center Kicks Off with Dr. Seuss Celebrations

The festivities began early at our Early Learning Center on Friday, March 2nd, with a special celebration honoring the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The celebration was not just about recognizing the incredible impact of Dr. Seuss's work but also about kicking off the much-anticipated Spirit Week. They welcomed students from Georgia College Early College who read some of their favorite Dr. Seuss books to them!

Throughout this week, students will come to school dressed as some of their favorite book characters. The excitement will culminate in the Storybook Parade this Friday, where the creativity and love for reading will shine brightly in a parade of literary characters.

Midway Hills Academy Embraces the Spirit of Reading

Midway Hills Academy is also participating in Read Across America week with their own Spirit Week, featuring themed days like "Cozy up and Read" and "Team Up for Reading." These themes encourage students to not only celebrate their favorite books and characters but also to see reading as a fun, shared experience that can bring people together. It's a fantastic opportunity for students to see the joy in reading and to share that joy with classmates.

Lakeview Academy's Fun Read Friday and Spirit Week

Lakeview Academy joined in the festivities with a special Fun Read Friday on March 2nd in Ms. Cobb's class, setting the stage for a week full of reading fun. Their spirit week is packed with activities and themed days designed to encourage students to explore new stories and revisit old favorites. It's a perfect example of how our schools are dedicated to creating engaging and supportive environments for reading.

Lakeview Primary and Midway Hills Primary

Just as we're Reading Across America, we're also reading across the Baldwin County School District! Our District has maintained a hyper focus on literacy this year ahead of the new Language Arts standards set to begin in the 2024-2025 school year. Part of this is instilling a deep sense of value and love for the prospect of reading within the hearts of every child. That's what Read Across America is all about. Both schools will be holding their Spirit Weeks to celebrate the culture of reading.

Join the Celebration!

Read Across America week is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore the vast worlds contained within books, to discover new interests, and to deepen their love of reading. Through parades, themed days, and special reading activities, our schools are committed to making this week a memorable one for every student. We encourage parents and community members to join in the celebrations, perhaps by reading a favorite book with a young reader in your life. Together, we can make Read Across America week a resounding success that inspires a lifelong journey of reading and learning. Happy reading, everyone!
