Midway Hills Academy's Trailblazing Job Fair: A Glimpse Into Our Community's Future

Where else but the Baldwin County School District are you likely to see a labrador wearing a bomber jacket on a normal Friday morning? That was the scene on March 22nd, at Midway Hills Academy where students spent the day riding ambulance stretchers up and down, getting their hair done, and learning about the incredible array of professional pathways available to them through their public education.

Midway Hills Academy was hosting its first Job Fair since the global pandemic, marking an important milestone under the leadership of first-year principal, Terri Carty. This event brought together professionals from across Baldwin, showcasing a wide range of career paths from construction and academia to nursing, and even working with service dogs. It was a hands-on, interactive day designed to bridge the gap between education and real-world professions, offering students a unique opportunity to explore future career possibilities.

Under Principal Carty’s guidance, the fair transformed the academy into a dynamic learning environment. Students engaged in immersive experiences, such as touring emergency vehicles and suiting up as firefighters, activities that brought the realities of various professions to life. Additionally, the inclusion of cultural and creative activities like hair braiding illustrated the school's commitment to showcasing a diverse array of vocational paths, emphasizing personal expression and the arts.
