Read to Lead Program Promotes the Importance of Literacy

Representatives from the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce, the Twin Lakes Library System, and the Community Foundation of Central Georgia delivered Read to Lead posters to be distributed throughout Baldwin's elementary schools to help promote the importance of literacy. According to Stephen Houser, Director of the Twin Lakes Library System, the Read to Lead program was started to promote the important relationship between reading and successful leadership. Baldwin County community leaders, such as Baldwin County School Superintendent, Dr. Noris Price, served as library storytime readers as part of the program. To demonstrate the value of literacy for the community, the pictures of the storytime readers were turned into framed posters, designed to look like the READ posters that were prominent in the 80s and 90s. The framed posters will be displayed in the Baldwin County elementary schools.
