Baldwin County School District’s 2025 Convocation Kicks-Off the New School Year for Teachers

ree

This year’s Convocation held special significance as we welcomed new leadership to the district. Dr. Kristina Brooks, Baldwin County’s new Superintendent, addressed the packed auditorium with heartfelt enthusiasm, sharing a continued vision of academic excellence and strong community partnerships. We also proudly welcomed Dr. Rodney Tyson, our new Deputy Superintendent, whose dedication to educational leadership will strengthen our mission across every campus.

We were honored to hear from several distinguished guest speakers, including Commissioner Andrew Strickland, City of Milledgeville Mayor Mary Parham-Copelan, and Baldwin County Board Chair Wes Cummings, each of whom reaffirmed their steadfast support for our schools and the vital work of our educators. Superintendent Brooks also introduced a new Innovative Teaching Award to Oak Hill Middle's Biotech Teacher Mrs. Sharon Reeves, marking a new legacy for the District to begin.

Keith L. Brown gave a riveting, energetic performance that ranged all over the James Lunsford Gymnasium.

But the true spark of the morning came from our keynote speaker, the unforgettable Mr. Keith L. Brown—known to many as “Mr. I’m Possible.” Returning to our stage after first joining us in 2022, Brown delivered an electrifying message of empowerment, resilience, and unwavering belief in our students and ourselves. With passion and humor, he reminded us that nothing is impossible when we operate with purpose, vision, and heart. His call to action: to see every challenge as an opportunity and every student as capable of greatness.

We were also thrilled to hear from some of our own students, who reminded us why we do this work in the first place. Their voices, filled with promise and potential, served as a powerful reminder of the impact we make every day.

One of the most anticipated moments of Convocation was the formal announcement of our 2024 District-wide Teachers of the Year. Please join us in congratulating this year’s honorees:

Megan Shuman – Lakeview Primary

Brandi Lawrence – Midway Hills Primary

Rhonda Crane – Lakeview Academy

Jessica Moose – Midway Hills Academy

Tiandra Canty – Oak Hill Middle School

Alicia Johnson – Baldwin High School

These exceptional educators represent the very best of Baldwin County. Their dedication, innovation, and compassion are the cornerstone of our district’s success.

With breakfast, door prizes, laughter, and inspiration, this year’s Convocation did more than mark the beginning of a school year—it ignited a renewed sense of mission in all of us. As we step into the months ahead, we do so with confidence, connection, and courage.

Here’s to a powerful year of possibility. Go Braves!
